The position of the newsletter editor has not yet been filled. If you have computer and/or web page knowledge and would like to take on the task, PLEASE let Dan or any officer know you would like to volunteer.

Dues for 2005 are now due. Over 2/3rds of the membership has already renewed their dues and dues statements have been mailed to those that weren't at the December or January meetings. We'd like to publish an updated contact list for the club as soon as possible, so please get your dues and any corrections to Mike Blake.

The March 5th & 6th Workshop will be presented by Dana Quattlebaum of Brussels Bonsai. Dana is Production Manager/Horticulturist for Brussels Bonsai. It will be good for the newer members to meet and form a friendship with Dana, who presents many workshops and represents Brussels at the conventions. Steve Sanders will coordinate the ordering of plant material for anyone who'd like to order a tree from Brussels Bonsai to work on at the workshop. They will need to be ordered at the February meeting.

Dan Bonnett used his considerable powers of persuasion and convinced Brent Phillippe and Ken Cole to accept the position of Showmasters for our April Show. Not sure which of you is going to be the Boss, since you're both so quiet, but you'll work it out. Thanks Brent and Ken, It's not really that much work and you get to pick the Showmaster Tree.
Ken Cole annouced he was interested in ordering some Bonsai tools from the monstery (BonsaiMonk.Com). Chuck Cockman is a distributor for BonsaiMonk and coordinates the ordering for club members. The monastery has a minimum order of $250 so we need to combine our orders together to get the best deal. Chuck advised he would bring the catalog and price list to the February 2005 meeting for members who'd like to order tools, etc. Members may also check out what's available on BonsaiMonk.com website, however it's best to wait and place the order through Chuck Cockman to get the best price and for the club to get a commission. BonsaiMonk's website has a link from our website.

If anyone has suggestions on meeting topics for the upcoming meetings, please contact Dan Bonnett or Justin Lovelace.

The program for the January meeting was audience participation regarding Justin Lovelace's Sweet Gum on a Rock. Justin has been growing a Sweet Gum on a rock for several years and dug it up and brought it to the meeting so everyone could offer their advice. As always, our more experienced members were generous with their advice and suggestions and after a while even the newer members chimed in. While this type of program might not be exciting to the more experienced, it was well received by the newer members who are still learning their skills.

Ken Cole requested that it be noted in the minutes that he said something smart, not just smart-aleck. Ken suggested that Justin turn the tree on its' side and make it into a cascade. Everybody laughed and then started thinking about it. There was agreement that this was a good suggestion.
