August Meeting Notes
by Lisa Martin
Marcus called the meeting to order and recognized the two guests that night: Bob Pike and Karen Kudos.

Mike Flanagan brought two crepe myrtles; his Chickasaw crepe myrtle was full of buds that had not opened yet but promised to be in full flower soon. Mike Flanagan wanted to thank to Mike Raska and Charles Sitter for their help at the member’s workshop. Both came to the workshop just to help other members with advice and direction.

At the last meeting Marcus demonstrated root over rock technique. The demo proved to be too much for the tree; in other words, it is a finished bonsai.

The sign up sheet for the Shiba Workshop on October 6th and 7th was available. The workshop is $50.00 a session. The club is also looking for someone to be a host to Shiba. If someone is willing to do this, please contact Marcus.

The club will need a newsletter editor because Andre is resigning at the end of the year. The club members will miss Andre’s input, because he has done such a great job.

Coming events: the fall show on Oct. 27th and 28th is approaching quickly and we need a show master. Marcus attended an affiliated members meeting where it was announced that the Garden Center is getting new tables and brochure stands for lobby display. The club will need to print more brochures for this information outlet. Volunteers are needed on September 8th and 9th at the new Centennial Botanical Center. Every affiliate will have a booth and we need volunteers to man ours.

Our August meeting was the annual swap meet where a lot of nice trees were sold and swapped.
